There are 3 churches to choose from in the area:
1. El Salvador Church, Nerja
The parish priest is Fr Andres Francisco Perez Gonzalez and he performs the ceremony in English. The ceremony is usually a wedding blessing with communion, not full mass. Weddings are usually, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 1pm, 4pm and 5pm. Its a big church and can hold up to 150 guests easily. Bookings can be made anytime from May of the previous year and not before. So for example bookings for 2014 weddings, will be booked and confirmed in May 2013. Fee for the church and priest is 270€ to be paid on the wedding day in cash.
Carolyn and Johnny 19/7/08 "The service was beautiful and Father Juan made it extremely personal for us which was an unexpected but very appreciated touch"
Niamh and John 10/9/08 "El Salvador church in Nerja is fantastic and doesn’t need much decoration"
Vivien and Glenn 4/9/08 "I fell in love with the church on the square in Nerja, and I hadn’t even seen inside it by then. And Fr Juan was so lovely and made us feel really relaxed"
Kim and Robert 29/8/10 "The church is right on the square and all the locals and tourists all came out to wish me well as I walked to the church which was really nice. Fr Andreas was amazing he made us feel very at ease and welcome from the first day we met him and through out the ceremony". ___________________________________________________________________________________
2. San Antonio de Padua, Frigiliana
The parish priest is Father Antonio. He performs the ceremony in English. He will perform a full mass if you wish. Weddings here can usually be any day. The church is difficult to access though. The buses park at the entrace to the village, so guests would have to walk for approx 8 minutes through the cobbled streets. The church itself is quite big and can hold up to 150 guests. Bookings can be made anytime in advance, but a deposit of 50€ is requested and the remainder of the fee, 220€, can be paid on the wedding day in cash.
Alice & Eamon 26/4/08 "We loved Frigiliana, the church was lovely, beautiful floral arrangements, priest great & we had a brilliant cava/canapés/music reception on square outside church after. Would recommend if having wedding there, to advise the ladies to bring flipflops for the walk to the church as buses have to park some way from the church but guests loved the white washed buildings & cobbled streets".
3. Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas in Maro
The parish priest is Father Andres, the same parish priest of EL Salvador church in Nerja. He performs the ceremony in English. Weddings here are also weekends only - Friday, Saturday and Sunday, usually 1pm, 4pm and 5pm. The church is easy to access as there is a coach car park just below it. The church is on the small side and can fit up to 65 comfortably. For booking this church the same rules apply, as the Nerja El Salvador church rules. Same price and method of payment also.
Frank and Annelies 21/6/08 "The Church in Maro is a beautiful small church where the statue of Maria has a central place right after the altar. It is also a ‘warm’ church with all the light coming in, but still “cold” on warm days. When we came out of the church we had a cava toast for us and our guests on the square just in front of the church."
